Almondbury Review: NARC Magazine

Here is a review of the Huddersfield-inspired tune ‘Almondbury’ in the November/December issue of local North East music and culture magazine NARC, written by Mark Corcoran-Lettice.

“On the Soundcloud link that I was sent over for James Kruman’s song Almondbury, I was promised “A deranged and perverted tour of Huddersfield”. What comes out of the speakers though is a quiet acoustic guitar and harmonica folk shuffle. There’s some funny little touches in the lyrics, nodding the hat to Patti Smith while lamenting the “Amish paradise” of the West Yorkshire market town. It’s a little jarring to hear Bradford’s neighbour placed in such a distinctly American musical context, but even if it can’t quite live up to the levels of derangement and perversion that this listener craves, Almondbury’s an enjoyable work from the young songwriter.”
